When aerodynamic performance is required, during high level competition, when chasing a PB or during a grudge club TT the Jet 9 Black is the passport to unprecedented speed.
A heady level of design specifications results in a very comprehensive weapon. Use it as a wheelset or pair it with our disc wheels for a record breaking TT… Use the rear wheel, paired with something like our Jet 6 Black front wheel to make a wheelset dialed for Kona… However you ride, when everything is on the line the Jet 9 Black is tethered while standing still, waiting to break records, hungry to devour the clock in your solitary moments of pain.
Performance is in the rim
Our Jet 9 Black wheels utilise our “hybrid” construction technology. This technology mates our aluminium “Plus” black rim with an aerodynamically sculpted UD carbon “skin” to offer an unbelievably quick platform that optimses clincher tyre use.
Almost implausibly low rolling resistance is catered for with our, wider “Plus” aluminium tubeless-ready clincher rim format. This format uses a 25mm external & 21mm internal platform that widens the rim-to-tyre interface. This helps the tyre reside on the rim with a much superior cross sectional profile and further enhances tyre sidewall stability. This morphs the tyre-to-road contact patch into a shorter but wider impression resulting in lower rolling resistance and increased cornering grip. The improved tyre cross sectional profile then increases the internal tyre volume which in turn grants the possibility of much lower tyre pressures. This results in much improved comfort levels, even across rougher road surfaces, without an increase of dreaded rolling resistance.
An aerodynamically manipulated UD carbon “skin” is then expertly bonded on to this aluminium “base” rim. This carbon section, a huge drag reducing 90mm in depth, isn’t just for low wind angles or incredibly calm days. Refined and sculpted via our “Stability Control Technology” (SCT) the 90mm Jet 9 rim offers superb aerodynamic performance while also offering a good degree of cross wind stability in a large range of riding conditions.
Black! Super aesthetics, maximized braking
This rim is completed with a stealthy look and increased braking performance afforded via our “Turbine Technology”. This is our all black rim finish that is designed with a textured, integrated braking surface. This brake surface is harder and tougher than other anodised surfaces and offers unprecedented stopping power, 25% better in the dry and a huge 70% superior in the wet, natural increasing rider braking confidence. Ease of use and serviceability is ensured with this rim as all standard brake pads are fully compatible and recommended.
The rims then spin around our “545” Straight Pull hub set. This hubset features ABEC 5 hi-grade stainless bearings that rotate on oversize 12mm & 15mm axles, front and rear respectively. The use of these oversized axels reduces deflection and peak loads on any one point throughout the bearing race minimizing rolling resistance and increasing longevity. Full, easy serviceability is also catered for within these hubs and can be performed via two simple 5mm allen keys. Shimano/SRAM and Campagnolo compatibility is offered ensuring that any bike set up is catered for before a 5 pawl freehub offers rapid drive engagement and a carbon front hub shell reduces weight and adds an aesthetic touch.
Super efficient, heavier riders catered for
Stiffness and strength is integrated in to the wheelset with straight pull Sapim CX-Ray spokes, hand laced and trued. The front wheel exhibits eighteen spokes (20 in the Stallion version, for heavier riders), laced in a radial pattern, affording even more drag reduction to an already slippery configuration while the rear wheel utilises 24 spokes (28 in the Stallion version), built in a 2-cross pattern. This pattern ensures maximum rear wheel stiffness and efficiency even during all out sprints or hard uphill efforts but also helps to normalise spoke tensions whether drive or non-drive.
The wheelset package is of course completed with our own lightweight titanium quick release skewers, valve extenders and air tight rim tape is supplied as standard should you wish to ever run a tubeless tyre set up.
