The road steepens; you get in to a rhythm, pedaling smoothly in the saddle. Trees line the road but the baking hot sun torches your neck. A sharp, left hand bend approaches. You rise out of the saddle, wondering what is around the corner, hoping that the suppressing gradient will ease. Only you are greeted by tarmac that snakes and slithers in to the sky and appears to never abate. You continue on, you have no choice, breathing hard, all the while knowing that your destination is still some 16km away and, horrifyingly, another 1400m up in the sky.
But, you have to push, you have to beat your PB, you have to rise through the Strava leader board. The gradient is relentless and the air is still. All is quiet apart from the sound of your labored breathing and racing pulse, that, for some reason you can now hear as it pounds, as it radiates through to your inner ear. Sweat drips from your furrowed brow as you try to click down through your gears, but, to your dismay, you’ve got nowhere to go, your cassette is at its max. This can’t go on. You need something else, some divine intervention to boost your performance, to get you to the top, to break your record, to finally trounce that annoying clubmate on Strava…

Full carbon rim, super lightweight and aero.
The 33mm deep, 25mm wide, bulbous profiled, full carbon rim is suitable for tubular tyres and offers a great blend of light weight climbing prowess and, due to the “Stability Control Technology” tuned profile, fantastic aerodynamic performance despite its relatively shallow depth. The increased rim width is designed to work harmoniously with the new breed of wider tubular tyres. This increased rim width helps to stabilise the tyre sidewall, altering the tyre-to-road footprint which in turn lowers rolling resistance.
Two types of carbon are utilized within this rim. UD Carbon is utilized in the aerodynamic rim body to shave weight and add vertical compliance while 3k carbon is used in the braking surface area and tyre bed to afford massive lateral stiffness and better heat dissipation during prolonged braking. During braking this rim offers great stopping power and modulation when combined with any good carbon specific brake pad.
Slick hubs. Power efficient build
Our own “Sonic Black” hubs, affording unprecedented rotational smoothness and durability through the use of hi-grade ABEC 5 stainless bearings and oversize axels, are adopted within the build. The use of oversized axles means that there is less deflection and peak load on any one area of the bearing race increasing rolling performance and bearing longevity. Also, they are fully serviceable via the use of two simple 5mm allen keys. Full Shimano, Campag and SRAM cassette compatibility is available as standard ensuring all bike set ups are catered for. These hubs are then laced to the full carbon rim via the industry leading Sapim CX-Ray spokes. The Stinger 3 is hand built in the US using 18 radial laced spokes in the front wheel for optimised aerodynamics and 24 spokes, 2-crossed in the rear for lateral stiffness and power transfer guaranteeing a wheelset with a comprehensive level of performance.
A resulting full wheelset weight of just 1189g and super solid construction via superior carbon material and build specifications results in a laterally stiff, strong climbing wheelset suitable for riders up to 108kg.
The wheelset is completed with our own light weight titanium quick release skewers and HED valve extenders.
