The Stinger 6 could most certainly be pigeonholed as “the perfect race wheel”. Road races across a multitude of courses whether flat or hilly, time trials, triathlons and hard, pro level sprinting are all catered for within the Stinger 6’s heady performance CV. With its mid-depth, 60mm profile it can quite easily be put to devastating use across so many racing applications.
Despite being lethal across rolling and flat race routes the Stinger 6 also climbs with more than just admiration. Because of its relatively light weight, but, more importantly, because of its superior aerodynamics the Stinger 6 remains an incredibly valid choice even when the roads turn skywards. Depending on rider development and speed the Stinger 6 could still be the best possible choice when climbing gradients of up to 5-6% even when vying for use against ultra lightweight wheelset options.
Hard, blistering, leg numbing out of the saddle efforts are also covered by the Stinger 6. The superior stiffness that is afforded naturally by a deeper rim but that is also added to the Stinger 6 via our superior construction methods and material lay-ups means that this wheelset is a mean sprinter. Whether charging for the line or accelerating hard out of the corners the Stinger 6 responds instantly, holding wheels for fun, and, when the time is right, aids the rider to come out of the slipstream and power for the win.
Full carbon rim, super aero, super stiff
The 60mm deep, 28mm wide, full carbon rim is suitable for tubular tyres and offers a great blend of light weight, superb lateral stiffness and, due to the “Stability Control Technology” tuned profile, fantastic aerodynamic performance and cross wind stability. The wider rim “cradles” the tubular tyre, smoothing the rim-to-tyre junction which acts to reduce turbulent airflow in this area therefore reducing drag. This “cradling” also grants more tubular tyre sidewall stability altering the tyre-to-road “footprint” morphing it in to a shorter but wider impression. This hugely reduces rolling resistance as well as increasing cornering grip.
Two types of carbon are utilized within this rim. UD Carbon is utilized in the aerodynamic rim body to shave weight and add vertical compliance while 3k carbon is used in the braking surface area and tyre bed to afford massive lateral stiffness and better heat dissipation during prolonged braking. During braking this rim offers great stopping power and modulation when combined with any good carbon specific brake pad.
Smooth spinners. Power build
Our own “Sonic Black” hubs, affording unprecedented rotational smoothness and durability through the use of hi-grade ABEC 5 stainless bearings and oversize axels, are adopted within the build. The use of oversized 12mm and 15mm axels, front and rear respectively, reduces deflection and high pressure loads on the bearing race resulting in smoother rolling performance and maximised longevity. Serviceability within these hubs is simple through the use of two 5mm allen keys. These hubs are then laced to the full carbon rim via the industry leading Sapim CX-Ray spokes. The Stinger 6 is hand built in the US using 18 radial laced spokes in the front wheel for optimised aerodynamics and 24 spokes, 2-crossed in the rear for lateral stiffness and power transfer guaranteeing a wheelset with a comprehensive level of performance.
A resulting full wheelset weight of 1481g that teams with advanced aerodynamics, super lateral stiffness and full gear compatibility with Shimano/SRAM or Campagnolo systems make the Stinger 6 THE race wheel for any rider up to a maximum weight limit of 95kg
The wheelset is completed with our own light weight titanium quick release skewers and HED valve extenders.
